A city steeped in history
THE CULTURE OF OUR ANCESTORS LIVES ON TODAY
A row of rof-tiled housees,witness to Hita's long history.
From early times Hita enjoyed flourishing exchanges with
Osaka, Edo, and Nagasaki, as a storage base under Lord Toyotomi,
and as land controlled directly by the Shogunate during
the Edo Period.
The 'Little Kyoto' of Kyushu, Hita is rich in historical atmosphere.
In additon, the Kangien, the private s'chool founded by
the famous scholar Tanso Hirose, became one of Japan's major
centers of learning, and sent many great scholars out into the world.
This cultural heritage gives depth to the Hita that we know,
making it a warm-hearted, charming town.
